  16. The FCC has extended the reply comment deadline in its proposal to
  17. adopt new standards for exposure to RF radiation.
  18.  
  19. The Notice of Proposed Rule Making, in ET Docket 93-62, would adopt
  20. standards already observed by the American National Standards
  21. Institute (ANSI) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic
  22. Engineers (IEEE) in 1992, and is opposed by the ARRL.

  24. The League already has told the FCC that the proceeding should be
  25. terminated, and cited a number of reasons, among them that it isn't
  26. really an NPRM since it doesn't actually propose to change anything,
  27. and that it shouldn't even apply to the average amateur
  28. installation.

  30. The League said that those amateurs remotely likely to be affected
  31. by new standards are those forced to use indoor antennas because of
  32. restrictions against outside installations.

  34. The FCC said it was extending the deadline in response to an
  35. industry group, the ''Telecommunications Industry Association,'' who
  36. said that more than 1200 pages of comments had been filed with the
  37. Commission and that not enough time had been allowed for evaluation
  38. of that much material.  The FCC said it recognized ''the complexity
  39. of the issues raised'' by its proposal.

  41. The reply comment deadline was extended from February 24, 1994, to
  42. April 25, 1994.  A full story on the League's comments to the FCC in
